Call of Duty 3 (Wii) - BUY IT!!

Call of Duty 3‘Call of Duty 3’ is the third game of the successful ‘Call of Duty’ video game series published by Activision. Given the success of its antecessors this game was released last November for all three major game systems available on the market these days: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and of course, the great Nintendo Wii system.

The game main plot is centered on World War II, specifically the taking of Normandy as product of the 1944 combined offensive known as ‘Operation Overlord’. British, Canadian, Polish and American forces attack the Germans stationed in France by several different flanks, action that concluded in the retaking of Paris and the Falaise Pocket, decisive achievement in World War II Allied campaign.

Given the characteristics of this particular war campaign, Call of Duty 3 has a unique feature: the player switches between the 4 nations involved in the assault, getting the chance to control 4 different characters, each one belonging to a different army that participated on the assault. Thus one plays as an American, a Canadian, an English and a member of the Polish armed forces back in 1944. All is covered in 14 very realistic and well designed campaign missions.

Although the graphic may seem weaker compared to those available for the Xbox and PlayStation consoles, the Wii version of the game uses a bouncing box that gives the user fast and very precise controls, superior in effectiveness to a PC’s mouse and keyboard combo. This controlling setting is extraordinary for quick movements during battle such as changing the direction you are currently facing or aiming while on the move for example. It does have some weak spots too, such as close combat situations where controlling a character may get a little messy but it just takes some training learning to master.

Overall the game is a solid option with lots of action, acceptable detail level and realistic scenarios and armament options.
